Umeed is a registered society working in the area of early identification, prevention, education, vocational training and rehabilitation of persons with mental retardation, autism, cerebral palsy & Multiple disabilities. It is registered under the societies act 1860 at Chandigarh and it has representative from professional institutions, care givers and private business houses who are willing to get associated for the cause and care of persons with disabilities. In a short span, Umeed has gained reputation at a national level and received Presidential Award from the then president of India Dr. A.P. J. Abdul Kalam in the year 2003 in the category of best placement agency working for persons with Mental Retardation.


Area of operation :


As per the constitution of the society, its head office will be at Chandigarh however the operational area will be entire north region including states of J &K, Himanchal, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.

1. Creating awareness among the professional as well as public so that the persons with disabilities are recognized early.

2. To work prevention of disabilities by establishing linkages with departments of health, education, mother and child as well as social justice and empowerment.

3. Establishing early intervention clinics for providing early interverntion to prevent further deterioration.

4. Provide special education to the children with severe to profound retardation and encourage inclusive education in regular schools for children with mild to moderate disabilities.

5. Provide vocational training for preparing the children to be independent self sufficient.

7. To have residential facilities for children who do not have any family to look after them.

8. To provide home based services to children with severe and profound disabilities.

9. To establish community based rehabilitation centres in the society.
